Kerala Local Body Election Results – 2025

  • Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has staged a spectacular comeback in the Kerala local body polls
  • The UDF has captured four of the six Municipal Corporations.
  • The BJP-led NDA achieved a breakthrough by winning the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The NDA maintained a smaller presence but registered notable wins, retaining Palakkad municipality and capturing Tripunithura.

The 2025 local body elections in Kerala will be held in two phases on December 9 and December 11, State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan said in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday (November 10, 2025), announcing the schedule of the elections.

Counting on Dec 13

First phase Dec 09 – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam

Second phase Dec 11 – Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod

Nomination submission deadline: November 21
Scrutiny of nominations: November 22
Last date for withdrawal of candidature: November 24

Elections will be held across 1,199 local bodies, excluding Mattannur, whose term has not yet ended. Following ward delimitation, the total number of wards stands at 23,612, up from 21,900 previously. Excluding Mattannur’s 36 wards, polling will occur in 23,576 wards.

At present, there are 1200 local governments (23611 Wards) in Kerala, which includes 941 Grama Panchayats (17337 Wards), 152 Block Panchayats (2267 Wards), 14 District Panchayats (346 Wards), 87 Municipalities (3240 Wards) and 6 Municipal Corporations (421 Wards). The last Election to the Local Self-government Institutions in Kerala (Panchayat Elections) was held in 2020 December.
