Ingredients:
- Paneer / Cottage cheese – 500gm
- Green Peas (or Matar) – 2 Cups
- Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Oil or Ghee – 4 tbsp
- Salt – as required
- Water – 2 to 21/2 cups
- Coriander leaves – few for garnishing
- Sugar – as required (optional )
Ingredients for the masala paste:
- Tomatoes – 4 (chopped)
- Onion – 2 (chopped)
- Green Chili, – 2 (chopped)
- Ginger, – 1/2 inch (chopped)
- Garlic cloves – 4 (chopped)
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Cashews – 5-6 whole (chopped)
Preparation Method:
- Blend all the ingredients mentioned under masala paste in a small grinder or blender to a smooth paste. keep aside.
- Heat oil or ghee. add ½ tsp cumin seeds. add the masala paste.
- Fry for 6-7 minutes on a medium flame till the oil separates from the paste.
- Add Turmeric Powder, Red chili powder, Garam masala powder, Coriander powder and stir.
- Add the peas (or matar), water and salt.
- Pressure cook till the matar/peas are cooked.
- When the pressure drops on its own, open the lid of the pressure cooker.
- Add the paneer cubes. simmer for 2-3 minutes or till the paneer cubes get cooked. (don’t overcook as the paneer becomes dense and hard)
- Garnish matar paneer with coriander leaves. The Curry is ready.
