Chicken Curry : Kerala Style

  • Chicken – 1 kg
  • Chilli powder – 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut Oil – 3 tsp + 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 3 pinch
  • Dry Red chillies – 3
  • Onion – 1 big (chopped finely)
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Garam Masala – 2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Salt – To Taste

Preparation Method:

  1. Marinate the chicken with Chilli powder, Coriander powder, Turmeric powder and 1/2 tsp salt and keep aside for 1/2 to 1 hour
  2. In a kadai / pan add the oil. When hot add the mustard seeds. When it splutters add the dry chilli and curry leaves.
  3. Add onions and sauté till it becomes soft. Add the ginger garlic paste till the raw smell goes off.
  4. Add the marinated chicken pieces now, add little water and allow to cook.
  5. When it is half cooked ( almost 10 min ), add half of garam masala and mix it well.
  6. Add enough Salt, close and cook the chicken for few more minutes, till the curry becomes thick
  7. When it is almost done add the rest of garam masala and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Remove from fire. Serve is as a side dish with bread, chappati, roti or rice
